Tim Finch Production Music FAQ
Audition The Music
How much are the pieces to license?
The prices vary according to intended use, but start from £40 (GBP). Licence prices rise according to intended use, likely types of media delivery and multi use scenarios.
Can I buy online and then download the full track?
Once I get a website designed to do that, yes! In the meantime, payment is by Paypal and I will send you a unique link to download the file from this website. You are welcome to download the watermarked example mp3s to do your sample edits from to ensure you are happy. Licensed tracks are distributed as 192kbps Stereo MP3 files.
What does the license cover?
As a brief summary, a license to synchronise the music to other creative works of media (sound, video, film, TV), and deployment in various media to an audience. The license does not cover the creation of new music works using parts or whole tracks, with an intention of producing a new 'work' that can be sold or distributed. The license gives rights to use the music, ownership and copyright remains with me. What you cant do is create a new musical work out of the piece, and the final media you produce cannot just be a music track. You may not just add sung vocals over the track and release this as a music work (whether free or for sale). The track can be used for an unsung voice over work, such as radio productions, podcasts etc. as well as for online video, retail DVD/Blu ray, TV programme or Film. Tracks can also be used in computer games as background music or telephone on-hold tunes etc.
Are the tracks available for licensing for exclusive use?
Some of them are, yes. We can sell a track for exclusive use if they haven't been sold already, or 'Exclusive from here on' - meaning no one else will be permitted to buy the track after the purchase. As of Feb 2011, because the initial set of tracks are relatively new, nearly all of them are available for exlusive purchase, so now is a good time to enquire! Tracks still available for exlusive licensing are marked such on the audition page.
Are there other lengths for each track - like 30' 60' etc.?
At present most of the tracks are written as just full length pieces. Any track can be re arranged into shorter lengths, or as an 'Underscore' (for VO work) mixes. As these other legth versions are made they will be added to the site. We are happy to arrange tracks into other requested lengths if required. Its all just a matter of whether we have got round to making the other length arragements yet.
Are the tracks covered by a PRS agreement?
At the time of writing this FAQ (Feb 2011) I am not currently working through any PRS agency for royalties on the tracks. However this may change if licensing deals are arranged that make it worth my while. All licensors will be informed if music becomes covered by PRS. Please note, even if music is licensed by PRS in the future, its only broadcasters who are obliged to pay the royalties, not the independent producers who license the music from me to synchronise in created media in the first place, as it is, in effect, a royalty on transmission, not on production. Can I loop the track? - It is too long or too short at present.
Yes. Some of the tracks have been written with that intention in mind - giving obvious loop points at 4, 8 or 16 bar intervals allowing users to extend, cut or re arrange parts of the track to fit the media the music is being synchronised to. What you can't do is create a new musical work out of the piece, and the final media you produce cannot just be a music track - these music tracks must be synchronised to new media that includes other media forms, like photos, video, film or spoken word (not sung lyrics).
Does this site offer music written by other composers?
No, this is my own site and it only features original music I have composed.
Is Tim Finch Production music available from other online libraries?
It soon will be. I have been in discussion with one Google high ranking provider and as soon as the contract is arranged with them, you will be able to buy my music from them as well. They take online payment giving immediate download faciltiies. This FAQ question will be updated once the new arrangement is in place with that provider.
Is Tim Finch available to write bespoke music solely for our media production?
By all means. Contact me for more information - use the information at the base of the page
I have another question not listed?
No problem, email it to me using the address at the base, and I'll reply to you as soon as possible. If it is general enough I'll add it to the FAQ.
